Top 10 Reasons Why I Don’t Have My Food Storage!

(By Wendy DeWitt’s -“Everything under the Sun”)

10.  My neighbors have a TWO year supply!
No, they don’t.  They don’t have any food.  Did you know that 85% of the members of the church don’t have any food storage at all?  If your idea of food storage is to eat someone else’s food…..this is a really bad plan.

9.   I’ve paid tithing for 20 years…the church can give me a little food.
Many members believe that when the times get hard, the church is going to come through like Joseph in Egypt.  Absolutely, not true!  All the church storehouses and welfare farms across the country would only feed 4% of the members of the church, and the food is not even meant for us!  The food will be used to feed those  who have not been warned.  The church has been asking YOU to store food for 75 years. They are not storing food for you.  Thus, another bad plan.

8.   I’m moving in with my parents/children!
Really…that’s just a bad plan all by itself.  But it points out that most members  don’t have a year’s supply because they’re PLANNING on eating someone else’s food!  Of course, since no one HAS any good, we have yet another bad plan.

7.   I have a year’s supply…and bullets to go with it!
I’ve heard this and again, “How dumb is that to go to all the time and expenses of  getting food…just to have some guy with a gun come and shoot my family to take it away?”  Here’s a better question.  Are you afraid of the guy with the gun?  Or are you more afraid of BECOMING the guy with the gun?  What would you do if your children were starving to death?  Would you lie? Steal? Cheat?  Would you    shoot your neighbor for his food?  I guarantee…if you were watching your   children starving to death you would do whatever it took to keep them alive. If you don’t have your years supply, you are putting yourself in danger of losing not   only your temporal salvation, but your spiritual salvation as well.

So far, all the reasons why we don’t have our food storage involve eating someone else’s food.  Please, don’t put your family’s temporal salvation in other people’s hands.  No one is storing food for you.  Not your neighbors, not the government…not even the church.

6.   The boat and the 4-Wheelers are taking up all my storage space!
  (Priorities!)

5.   Prophecies…Disasters…9/11…but they’re always making way too much out of everything!
This is never going to happen!  (Every prophecy that has ever been given WILL happen!)

4.   If anything DOES happen, the government will be here within hours!
(Funny!)  Did you know the government has been telling us that we need to have           food storage?  They’re actually CALLING it food storage!  We now have the government telling us to store food, water, medicines…whatever we will need to  be able to stay in our homes for several months.

3.   I can’t afford scrapbooking AND food storage.
The average food storage can cost as little as a dollar a day.  We live in the richest society in the history of the world, and while there are cases where money may be a problem, most of the time it is a matter of priorities. We have chosen bigger homes, nicer cars, vacations, etc…everything is more important than our food  storage.  You have to make food storage a priority.

2.   I’m waiting for the cannery to sell Papa John’s dehydrated pizza!
Food storage has always had a stigma attached to it.  If it’s not wheat, beans and           powdered milk, it’s not food storage.  Wrong!!  Food storage can be the foods you enjoy and currently eat.  Your imagination (and your pocketbook) are the only  limitations you have.

1.   And the #1 reason why I don’t have my year’s supply of food?  I thought it was 72 hours!!!
You KNOW you should have your food storage.  You WANT to have it, but it  can be so overwhelming.  How much do I buy?  Where do I store it?  How do I   cook it?  How can I afford it?  It seems like an impossible task…but it’s not.  It does require faith, obedience, prayer and a simple plan.  Hopefully over the next  few months, I’ll be able to give you some ideas that will help you get started or       to continue chipping away at it until you have your 1-year supply.

Paint Can Heater or Camp Stove

Prepared Not Scared has lots of GREAT PREPAREDNESS information!!

Click the link for Labels and Instructions on how to make the “Paint Can Heater or Camp Stove”.  I sent a similar email a few months ago, but this one has step by step instructions with pictures.  This was used by another ward in our area.  The preparedness stores have something similar to this but it doesn’t work as well (falls apart very easy – made cheaply) and costs quite a bit more.  My father bought one from the preparedness store and wasn’t very impressed with it.  He tried the paint can heater and said it worked great.  My first impression was the paint can heater was kind of “Mickey Mouse”, but I was wrong.  They work very well.

If you are interested, you can assemble one on your own (very easy to do) or if enough want to make them, we can do it as a group.  If you are interested in doing it as a group, please email me back.  If I get enough people interested, we will do it as a group.

This can be used as an emergency heater or cooker.

Thanks,
Carry

June Garden Tips

ü     Plant your vegetable garden early in the month.  Make sure to keep soil evenly moist to encourage germination.
ü     Transplant tomatoes and peppers into the vegetable garden.  Harden-off tender transplants before planting or plant in the evening when it is cool.  Water with diluted Root Stimulator after transplanting.
ü     Use Spinosad dust on cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower to rid vegetables of cabbage lopper worms or us row covers to protect plants from these pests.
ü     Hoe small weeds in the morning and let the afternoon sun dry them up.
ü     Plant tender annuals such as marigolds.
ü     Fertilize roses with Systemic Rose and Flower Care Rose food.
ü     Prune flowering shrubs (such as lilacs) after bloom.
ü     Tender aquatic plants (water hyacinths, water lettuce, etc.) can be added to your pond now.
ü     Fertilize water lilies and marginals with Aquatic Pond Tabs.
ü     Continue to feed fish.  Check pumps and filters periodically to make sure they are clean and working properly.

The top 4 short-term things everyone should have in their storage. ~PrepareMyFamily.com

Just a few days ago an individual, who had been buying emergency supplies for some time plus being involved in helping others prepare, asked me a number of preparedness questions. One of them hit at the very core of how things really work. It's a perspective that people overlook in their desire to buy things for an emergency.

'I've seen this deal on a whole house standby generator on eBay. I really want to get it so I can have power to run my furnace in the winter. What is your opinion on how much I should have to pay for one? My answer was, 'a generator is a nice thing to have in the 'TOOL' category once you have taken care of the other true priority items. In fact, I intend to have one someday once I've taken care of the things on the 'A' and 'B' list. A generator is a 'C' or 'D' item because in the true scheme of long-term survival, a generator and its fuel sources are very unreliable. You first spend your money on the most important and most reliable things (the 'A' and 'B' list).'

I then presented this individual with the true priorities of what you must have for the short-term and gave him a copy of my #1 DVD 'THE FOUNDATION' to review and share with others.

The short-term 'Parachute' items are:

1. Clothing - A person will die in 3 hours without warmth:
When conditions are severe and cold, a person without protection can slip into hypothermia (low core temperature) very quickly. Injury and death can be surprisingly quick. It is also important to understand that hyperthermia (elevated core temperature) can be just as threatening to life in hot conditions. Clothing is the first line of defense for personal protection during emergency and survival situations.

2. Water - A person will die in 3 days without water:
It's not just about thirst. You must have adequate supplies of quality (safe to drink) water. Under ideal conditions, once you have lost about 15% of your bodyweight from dehydration you will be dead. In survival conditions, as little as 6 to 10% of bodyweight from dehydration can cause death. Becoming dehydrated will cause hypothermia in the cold and hyperthermia in the heat. Then there is also the issue of contaminated water that will make you sick. A common problem from contaminated water is diarrhea/ dysentery, which will cause dehydration very quickly if unchecked.

3. Sanitation - A person can die from sanitation issues that may occur the first day of a disaster:
You may not die immediately from a contaminated environment, but if you catch a disease and die two weeks later, the results are the same. Sanitation issues very commonly lead to unsafe water, which leads to diarrhea/ dysentery, which leads to dehydration, which leads to hypothermia or hyperthermia.

4. Special Needs - During emergencies some people may require other things immediately to stay alive:
If there is injury you can bleed to death in 30 seconds, or die within 3 minutes without air. Lack of medications or special nutrients can be a serious problem for some. During disasters and upheaval, depending on where you are, personal protection can suddenly become a matter of life and death.

Once the short-term 'Parachute' items are in place expand them and take care of the next five areas to round out your 'Long-Term Provisions':

5. Nutrition
6. Shelter
7. Wellness
8. Tools
9. Supplies

If you or others have questions in this area, I recommend that you carefully review DVD #1 - THE FOUNDATION.
